Derek Quinn was part of one of the most successful teams in OVA history for four consecutive years, winning a major championship each year. His coaches and teammates considered him to be the most underrated player in the OVA and their most valuable, versatile and consistent player.
He was, more than any other player, the reason his team won the 18U Canadian National Championships, passing dimes, digging everything in sight, and scoring every time, even on difficult sets in difficult situations.
Derek, in 4 years at Humber, and after switching positions from left side (starter with Pakmen) to setter (starter with Humber), Derek has led the Humber Hawkes to 3 Provincial Championships in 4 years.
Derek was named the Provincial Championships MVP in 2011 and 2012 and led Humber to the schools first National Championship in mens volleyball in 2012 – incidendly, Humber were the first Ontario team to win the Mens Volleyball Nationals in 28 years and only the second ever!
Derek graduated with honours from the University of Guelph-Humber at the end of the 2012 season, earning a Batchelor of Science Degree in Justice Studies. Derek will be attending Humber College for the 2012-13 season to complete his varsity volleyball elligibility.
